Ideas for a bathroom remodel and redoraction
My hub and l purchased our home three years ago, and it only has one bano!
It was charming, because the tile was original from the forties. It is a
pale blue. The tile on the floor was nasty, white tiny tiles from that same
era.The grout is gross, and l have tried every chemical to get it
cleaned. So, the rest of the fixtures are ''eighties'' ish-pedestial sink,
three door medicine cabinet with ugly bulb lights above it. In short, it is GOTTA go, because soon, (withina few years), we need to upgrade this starter home to a bigger house. So, I am thinking nature colors: chocolate with sage green? a vessel sink? />Ideas and trends are welcome!
Excellent idea to upgrade the bath before you move, & enjoy it
until you do!
I recently redecorated our bath which was very, very 80 is style.
Used a color called Coffee, Lowe is American Signature, for the walls.
Painted all the trim white, as well as the vanity & medicine cabinet.
Installed beadboard panels on the two straight walls. Just glued it on &
glued on the trim. Did all the cuts with a jigsaw. Installed black & white vinyl tiles. Coffee colored rugs. Used coffee & white buffalo check curtains on the window & at the linen closet (used a shower curtain with white tension rod). New silver handles on the vanity. Stainless steel waste can & toilet tissue holder (one of the pedestal kind). New stainless steel 3-light vanity light, nice but cheap from Lowe's. Stainless steel towel rack. White shelf above commode with appropriate white & black knick knacks. I decoupaged some Norman Rockwell prints onto some leftover beadboard, burned the edges first. I wish I could show you the picture. It turned out just beautiful. Just how I pictured it to begin with.
I am thinking Africain Volcanic rock or terra cotta tile on
the floor, with a sage green or koala bear (behr paints)colour on the
walls and cedar edging around the tub with shower doors, the sink could be
a bowl like sink that sits on top of an old antique dresser that has been
made into a vanity, all natural wood finish. Either brass finishes or
nickel finished taps etc. Good luck.
As anyone knows, bathrooms & kitchens are the place to invest
ur money in.
I would recommend the following.
Make sure there are separate bath & shower areas if at all possible. Jet
tubs are great. The shower should not have old fashioned Plexiglas. If
you can afford it, slate is wonderful. Additionally, multiple shower heads are a plus. Make sure all of the bathroom fixtures are replaced & upgraded. I would go with a stone floor. If that is not possible look at a laminate that looks like stone. If you have room look at a double sink feature. Most couples want & need the room. Bathrooms should look & feel like a spa in homes. You want it to be a peaceful sanctuary.
If you are going to be moving on to a larger home, then why
spend the big bucks in this one?
I think ur very best best would be to replace everything with a good
quality white suite, & do the retiling in neutrals. Sand colours seem to
be the most popular, but don't get too fancy because ur style may not
match a buyer is style. Keep in mind that porcelain tiles do not absorb water as ceramics do, & are better for bathroom floors & tub surrounds. The chocolate & sage green, with the vessel sink, sounds lovely for ur next home.
